Reducing revenue cycle denial in Critical Access Hospitals

This grant provides funding to cover the costs of implementing a financial/operational improvement project for their Critical Access Hospital (CAH) using federal Flex funding.

Grant requirements:

  • Hire a qualified data analytics vendor to manage activities that would streamline the CAH revenue cycle management process
  • Based on vendor feedback, create workflow changes to reduce projected denied claims
  • Provide the CAH’s insurance claims denial percentage as a baseline measurement at the beginning of the project
  • Identify and quantify the reasons for claims denials by provider, by procedure, and by insurance payers
  • Update workflows as needed based on the reasons for denials
  • Manage these measurable outcomes:
    • create at least 3 workflow corrections to streamline revenue cycle denial management.
    • report anticipated changes that show a projected 25% decrease in forecasted denials.
