All ACGME programs have a Sponsoring Institution (SI).  The application would come from the program listing the SI. For example, the program has residents regularly at a participating site and the participating site wants to increase the number of residents (new spots) but the program is at a different sponsoring institution.  Can the participating site apply for the grant? The participating site would need to have the base program, and their SI, submit for an increase in positions request to the ACGME listing the participating site as a location to support the increase. If the participating site wishes to be independent of the current base program, they will need to apply separately with the ACGME.

Needs vary by county and are weighted in relationship to the physicians per 100,000 population ratios in that discipline. This metric is 1 of 25 used to determine a weight for each program.

No ranking will occur from the LOI’s. The final applications will be the source for decisions made on funding.  The LOI assists UMEC in preparing for the work effort that will be needed to complete the grant process. 

Are there yearly or overall funding limits per applicant program?

• No limits on funding to be requested. Request needs to be supported in the submitted budget. Not an all or nothing award. Could potentially be partial approval depending on committees review and decision.

An organization is interested in applying for two residency slots. Is it possible that we could apply for two but receive only one? 

• As it is 2 separate ACGME approved programs, it needs to be 2 separate applications.  It is ok to use the same letters or documents for support.  They would be leaving grant dollars on the table as it would be very difficult for the committee to differentiate overhead for each individual program.

Do we need to factor any other considerations into the application toward navigating this possibility if so (such as a supplemental budget)?"

• If two separate programs could potentially have one or the other or both approved for funding.  F two positions in the same program, could receive full request or partial approval depending on committees review and decision.
