Resources for dental and medical professionals

Whether you're assisting patients with pain management, curious about Utah's fluoridation practices, or providing oral health treatment to young people, the Oral Health Program is an ally to medical professionals. The Oral Health Program shares data with dentists and hygienists, and collects important information about the oral health of Utahns.

Community Water Fluoridation

Water with fluoride protects teeth from tooth decay. To find the level of fluoride in your drinking water visit the CDC’s My Water's Fluoride Map. You can search by state, county and public water system.

Oral Health Risk Assessment Tool

The American Academy of Pediatrics has developed this tool to aid in the implementation of oral health risk assessment during health supervision visits. This tool has been subsequently reviewed and endorsed by the National Interprofessional Initiative on Oral Health. It is recommended that all children receive a risk assessment at the 6- and 9-month visits and should continue if dental homes are not established. If appropriate, high-risk children should receive professionally applied fluoride varnish and have their teeth brushed twice daily with an age-appropriate amount of fluoride toothpaste. Referral to a pediatric dentist or a dentist comfortable with caring for children should be made with follow-up to ensure that the child is being cared for in the dental home.
