Acknowledging National Day of Service

The office of Primary Care and Rural Health (PCRH) celebrates AmeriCorps Week (March 12-28, 2023), and acknowledges the incredible impact that AmeriCorps members have on communities in Utah and all over the United States.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. This year, on January 16th, 2023, AmeriCorps VISTA members in the Utah Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) partnered with the Granite Education Foundation to support their mission in reducing barriers to learning for students in the Granite School District. Thanks to the support of DHHS, community members Chloe Hoff and Abby Adams, and the PCRH team, collected and delivered 12 completed backpack kits and a plethora of school supplies to the Granite Education Foundation, totaling around 250 dollars.\

“We would like to thank everyone who took the time and initiative to contribute to our efforts. Granite Education Foundation does powerful work, and it was a great opportunity to partner with them to support their mission, as well as engage with the greater Salt Lake community”

-Chloe Hoff and Abby Adams, AmeriCorps VISTAs

“AmeriCorps invites our partners to recognize the commitment of those who have chosen to serve their communities through AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors and encourage others to follow in their footsteps of service during AmeriCorps Week. These dedicated citizens help communities manage COVID-19 response, ensure students stay on track to graduate, combat hunger and homelessness, respond to natural disasters, fight the opioid epidemic, help seniors live independently, support veterans and military families, and much more.”
